Fun Fridays – September 20, 2019

I found this analysis of the Beach Boys’ song “Good Vibrations” to be absolutely fascinating.

This seven-minute breakdown shows how a creative genius could raise the level of the craft beyond where others had been before. An example for all creatives out there.

Enjoy!

Great analysis. Including Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born (old and new), these prove the miraculous craft of writing, whether it be through music or books. Thanks.

Steve, I thought this was going to be a satire piece, but in truth, it was an impressive analysis, one to which I was glued till the very end.

    Great find!

Thanks for sharing this article Steve. Not only did it shed light on Brian Wilson’s musical genius, but it brought back fond memories of me and my best friend getting Mike Love’s autograph after their show at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, sometime back in the 70’s – many moons ago.

I have always believed this song to be one of the greatest pop
Songs of all time. I don’t have a musical bone in my body, but even I could see that it is a masterpiece. Something the video did not go into is how Brian’s bandmates didn’t appreciate the effort he was putting into the song at the time, and wanted him to just be done with it. But he was obsessed, and when it was finished they realized what they had. A great lesson there. Thanks for sharing.

Not unlike the reactions to Bohemian Rhapsody when it was being produced!

Very interesting! I’ve always loved that song. Always a toe-tapper, dance in your seat kinda song. Or if so inclined, throw caution to the wind and just get up and boogie! My choice!

Not only was that fun and fascinating to watch and listen to, but it has raised my consciousness level for all future music. Amazing! All that was going on and I was just busy bee bopping along in my ’71 Cutlass Supreme! The Beach Boys were my favorite group along with Jan and Dean who had a similar sound. Nice trip back in time too!
