Who We Are

Steve Laube, president and founder of The Steve Laube Agency, a veteran of the bookselling industry with 40 years of experience. In the 80s he was a bookstore manager and was awarded the National Store of the Year by the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). He then spent over a decade with Bethany House Publishers and was named the Editor of the Year by AWSA. Twenty years ago he became an agent where he and his agency have represented over 2,300 new books and Steve was named Agent of the Year by ACFW. He was also inducted into the Grand Canyon University Hall-of-Fame by their College of Theology. He is married with three grown children and two grandsons.

Steve has very eclectic interests. He has represented everything from sweet romance to systematic theology. His clients are equally divided between fiction and non-fiction writers. (For a complete resume of his past work and editorial experience click here.)

He is the President of The Christian Writers Institute and publishes the annual Christian Writers Market Guide (also available online). Plus he is the author of The Chosen Presents: A Blended Harmony of the Gospels, Book Proposal Tips and Tricks, and Write Your First Novel.

In addition, he oversees the publishing program for Enclave Publishing (a division of Oasis Family Media) one of the premier publishers of Christian fantasy and science fiction.

Tamela Hancock Murray has been a literary agent since 2001. She is a bestselling author of over thirty novels, novellas, and nonfiction books, and won an RWA Inspirational Readers Choice Award (follow this link for a complete list of her books). Although her current writing for publication is limited to the Agency blog, because of her experience, Tamela brings the perspective of a working writer to her role as a literary agent. She represents many top authors and continues to develop new talent.

In 2017 she was named Agent-of-the-Year by ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers).

She earned her BA with honors in Journalism from Lynchburg College in Virginia. Today she enjoys living in Northern Virginia with her husband of over thirty years. They are the proud parents of two lovely adult daughters.

Read what type of books Tamela is looking for.

Bob Hostetler is a thirty-year veteran of Christian publishing. He has been a writer, magazine editor, freelance book editor, and author of fifty books, both fiction and non-fiction (click here for a list of his books on his website). A frequent speaker at writers conferences and retreats around the world, he has encouraged and coached numerous writers to publishing success. In 2017 his book The Bard and the Bible was named the Selah Awards Book of the Year.

Bob is an Ohio native with earned degrees in English Bible from Cincinnati Christian University and English Communications from Bloomfield College. He was ordained to the ministry by The Salvation Army.

He has been married for forty years to the lovely Robin, his teenage sweetheart and ministry partner; together they have pastored four churches (though not all at once) and were foster parents to ten teen boys (though not all at once). They make their home in southern Nevada.

Bob claims to have two perfect children, Aubrey and Aaron, who have given he and Robin five perfect grandchildren.

Dan Balow started in Christian publishing in 1983 and over the years has been involved in the business side of the industry in marketing, sales, foreign and domestic rights management, audiobooks, digital publishing, and acquisitions.

A significant amount of his experience was with Tyndale House Publishers from the early 90’s to the mid-2000’s. While there, Dan developed a wide-ranging perspective on the industry, taken from involvement with hundreds of authors, thousands of books and a love for the business.

He spent five years working with this agency as an agent, leaving temporarily in late 2018 to focus time on a publishing-related venture he owned before returning in early 2021.

Dan’s strengths would be his understanding of what it takes to be successful in the publishing environment and how all the elements of publishing work together.

Dan served on the board of the Evangelical Christian Publisher’s Association, the trade association for Christian publishers in the U.S. and was board chairman of the Global Publishers Alliance, a group of U.S.-based publishing executives involved in mentoring Christian publishers in other countries. He was an original member of the advisory board of the Christy Awards (now part of ECPA) and involved in training and mentoring Christian publishers through Media Associates International.  (www.littworld.org)

Dan is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL) with a degree in Communications and has been married to Carol for 40+ years. They live in Wheaton, Illinois and have four grown children and seven grandchildren.
