Admit in the comments below the strangest thing you have used as a bookmark.

Where have you gone, dear bookmark,
where are you, where, oh where?
But substitution calls out, hark!
A lock of canine hair!
But the Heeler’s onto me,
and scurries from the room.
She is too alert, you see,
and I moved far too soon.
My own hair is too short to use,
but what about my beard?
There’s nothing else about to choose,
and though it looks quite weird,
pulled out by roots with mighty yank,
my place is saved by knotted hank.
A foil gum wrapper, a grocery store receipt, and yes, I’ve folded a dog ear page! Lol
You and me too. Lol
For over 20 years, I’ve used the same leather bookmark my brother made for me. It’s been there for every book I’ve read since I was a teenager.
I once used an earring. Totally have done the “use another book to bookmark a book” tactic. My phone. A pen. Never dog-eared though.
I’ve used found bird feathers as bookmarks.
Gum wrapper, a leaf, and (yes) I’ve dog-eared.
I have used a bobby pin, reading glasses, and a Kleenex!
Yarn tends to be my go-to since, as a knitter and crocheter, I have plenty of that laying around, but I’ve also used a folded up (clean!) tissue.
One time, I bought a book from a library sale and found a coupon for a car repair service inside, which I can only assume was being used as a bookmark. Sadly, the coupon had expired 10 years before.
Weirdest thing? A bed sheet. I was reading in bed, got called away, closed the book on the thin fabric of the top edge of the sheet, and left the book sitting there.
LOL… love that!
Since I read almost exclusively on my iPad I do not have these problems LOL.
I love my iPad, large fonts so no eye strain, good lighting in dim spaces, unlimited storage without throwing your back out… I shall add this to my list of advantages of going electronic LOL.
A hacksaw blade, and a 553 cartridge.
Leaves and toilet paper. All the time.
Hope the leaf wasn’t poison ivy. Especially if you used it like toilet paper.
I’ve used legos, price tags, a freshly dried brazzier, a cold cup of coffee, and even what our kids referred to as a “flice water.” It’s a shameful habit, I know.
However, with the help of Kindle and my Audible account, I’m getting better one book at a time.
Toilet paper, tissue, foil, paper towel, handcream bottle, glasses, pen, pencil, eraser, candy wrapper, paper clip, business card, and yes, I have dog-eared a page!
How funny! I use either the receipt from my purchase of the book or a post-it note. Very high tech, I will confess, but at least is isn’t a rotten banana or a popped balloon.
I have many pretty bookmarks, but I often end up using a paper clip or an emery board.
This is such a fun and relatable post! I love reading about all the creative, quirky bookmarks people use. It makes me smile and feel less guilty about my own random paper clip habit.
I’m infamous for leaving tiny slips of paper torn from library receipts as bookmarks to mark my favorite sections in books. I’ll loan one to my sister, saying, “don’t lose the little slips of paper,” and she’ll go, “how can I not? They’re everywhere!” I am also currently using the slip of paper that I use to track my P.E. hours to mark Les Mis. But probably the strangest things I have ever used to mark a page are a scrap of felt and a ten dollar bill!
I’ve used a shoe to keep my place in a book. 🙂
Post it note, leaving it turned to the page face down on the table and a magazine. I always feel guilty dog earing the page, but sometimes ya just have to.
