We at the Steve Laube Agency were shocked and so very saddened yesterday morning to learn of the tragic events that took the life of our client, Dr. Robert Lesslie, along with his wife, two of their grandchildren, and two others.
We express our sincere prayers and our heartfelt condolences to all who knew, loved, and worked with Dr. Lesslie, who was highly regarded in his profession and in the Rock Hill, South Carolina, area. He was the author of numerous books, having been represented by the Les Stobbe Agency and, since 2017, by Bob Hostetler of The Steve Laube Agency. Those books include bestsellers, such as Angels in the ER and the forthcoming Angels in the ER, Vol. 2 (published by Harvest House).
The words Dr. Lesslie chose to begin Angels in the ER resound with his trademark wisdom and sensitivity:
Twenty-five years in the ER have taught me a lot of things. I know without a doubt that life is fragile. I have come to understand that humility may be the greatest virtue. And I am convinced we need to take the time to say the things we deeply feel to the people we deeply care about.
Last December he posted on his blog the following excerpt from his forthcoming book:
One day, when I depart this body and find myself in the presence of the Lord, my time, however it will be measured, will be filled with the praises and the wonder of Jesus.
Dr. Lesslie lived as he wrote. “Flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!” (from William Shakespeare, Hamlet, V, 2, 4022).
Steve, my condolences and prayers to all.
Yesterday, I read a post by Les Stobbe about his client that he’d signed and how it took a while to find a publisher for his Angels in the ER book of short stories until Harvest House agreed to take a chance on a book of short stories. The other publishers said such books of short stories never do well. I wasn’t aware of the books until then, but now I plan to look for them.
My condolences to everyone.
Thank you for sharing about Dr. Lesslie’s writing. He treated our daughter and was an excellent physician. The media has mentioned his faith, but not his writing. Please accept my condolences and know I am grieving his loss with you.
I’m so sorry to hear about this horrific tragedy. May God comfort all who knew and loved this man and his family. I pray the peace that passes understanding will fill each of you as you grieve your friend and colleague.
How very sad. Please accept my condolences, Steve, for you and the whole agency. Take care.
My prayers go out to their family at this tremendous tragedy, especially those who lost both children and parents. My mind can’t comprehend it…how quickly life can take such a turn. May the Lord hold each person close whe experienced this loss.
So very sorry to hear this, Steve. How terrible! But he had a very strong faith, and I’m certain that he now is walking with some of those very same angels he wrote about.
When I heard about that tragic event, I prayed for all who were left to grieve his passing – especially the parents of those beloved grandchildren.
I am SO very sorry for the loss to those of you who knew, loved, and respected him.
Blessings,
My deepest sympathy to you, the family and friends and all those who knew and loved him. May our Lord breathe comfort and peace in this time of grief and loss.
So so sorry to hear this. Praying for his family.
Eternal rest grant on to their souls o Lord and comfort with your peace that passeth all understanding to loved ones, close associates, friends and all who will miss him dearly. My deepest sympathy to you all at Steve Laube Agency!
I have read all Dr. Lesslie’s books I could find, and loved them all. Condolences to his family from ours.
Steve, I’m so sorry, for Dr. Lesslie’s family and friends, and for all of you at the agency.
The first thing to come to mind was an excerpt from Laurence Binyon’s poem, ‘For The Fallen’.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
God bless.
So, so saddened and heartbroken by this news. No words. Lord we need you.
This is truly heartbreaking. I’m praying.
Such a heartbreaking tragedy.
My prayers are with all who knew this family.
May the Lord offer comfort as only He can.
Mixed emotions always accompany the loss of someone you know to have brought joy to others. He and his family will be missed, and yet, we envy his new habitation with our Lord. Sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to the stories of New Jerusalem, among others. Enjoy the peace and joy of heaven. We’ll join you someday soon.
Shocking! Things happen in this fallen world that we don’t understand, especially when we live our lives on the promises of God we read in the Bible. I only know from experience that the deep holes that have been created from this tragedy will be filled by God, and He will see this through!
What a terrible tragedy. Our world has lost these dear people who shined the light in the darkness. Praying for the family and friends left behind.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Praying for the family.
I am so saddened to hear this news. May God bring comfort in tangible ways to all those who grieve.
Father God, may the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit grant mercy, peace, love, and grace to all those involved in such tragic circumstances.
Was horrified to see this story in the news. Condolences to you and all at your agency, along with the Lesslie family.
