Thanks for sharing your thoughts about proposals. Clearly, a lot of us struggle with this side of being a writer. As I was thinking over what to write for tackling those problematic proposal elements, I rediscovered the video below, made in ’09. It was created by best-selling authors Angela Hunt, Kristin Billerbeck, Robin Lee Hatcher, and Terri Blackstock.
These authors, back in ’09, had written a combined total of more than 900 books, and yet they, too, like all of us, struggle at times to find the words, to keep the backside in the chair, to do the work of writing. And I guarantee you they’ve struggled at times with proposals.
So friends, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re in very good company!
So today, enjoy! And next week, we’ll dig in.

That made me smile – a lot. Thanks, Karen.

Great post, thanks. Time to get to work and make a difference in a reader’s life.

Thanks Karen. As a guy who is just wrapping up his first manuscript, I tend to take all of the writing experience (and myself) too seriously. Sooo…I needed this. Today. It’s good to know that I really am in good company.

Yeah, I needed that. Today. Thanks, Karen!

Have you ever noticed the cyclical nature of many portions of our lives? In many areas there is sometimes a rather noticeable ebb and flow. Whether it be romance, finance, health, family relationships, profession and yes even writing there are times when it seems nothing is going right no matter what you do and other times when your life just sings and it seems you can’t do anything wrong.
I have learned to embrace this phenomenon and calmly “wait out” the not very productive (or personally challenging) times always with continued complete faith in our Lord and use it as a time for increased self reflection, diligence and determination. I know that I will come roaring back. In those times when life just sings and accomplishments flow at high volume I’ve learned to press full out and not back off until I feel the tank (or well) running low.
At all times the motion is still forward toward an ultimate destination albeit at markedly different speeds. I would dare propose that these authors have likely acquired similar insight (as evidenced by their prodigious acheivement in spite of the procrastination depicted in the video).
DANIEL: 2:21 He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
Thanks for allowing me to share. God Bless!

Thank you, Karen. ‘No one else can speak the words on your lips’ jumped out and encouraged me.

LOVED it! Nothing like a good dose of humor to usher in a “praise God!” moment. This video ministered to me. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve seen that one and their other one, I Want To Be a Paperback Writer. They are a hoot!
