Daddy is with Jesus Now

My daddy, Herman Bryce Hancock, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday. Thank you for all of your love and support after he suffered two strokes.

He was cheerful after major surgery but then experienced a second stroke and fell into a coma. Afterward, he rested peacefully and was under superb care at VCU Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, before he passed.

The world is much dimmer now without him.

Please continue to hold our family in your hearts and prayers.

    I know the dimness that results from losing a loved one. You and your mom and all who loce your daddy are in my prayers.

    (Also, in case you need a laugh, my autocorrect changed “dimness” to “dinner.” That certainly would ve given my comment new meaning…)

    I lost my father to death last year. I know and remember the pain well. You and your family are in my prayers. The Holy Spirit will be there to give comfort during grief. Brothers and sisters will be at your disposal to be the shoulder because so many of us care for you. As you walk with your family through this time of adjustment, know there will be the next life where there is no time and this is only a season until then. You will be in my prayers.

    Dear Tamela, it is so hard to say goodbye to your Daddy until you meet again someday. We are praying for you and your family. I find great comfort in these two verses when I am missing those I love who have gone home to be with our Lord: Romans 14:8, “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” and James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” I hope they comfort you too…

    May you and your family feel God’s loving presence, surrounding you with His peace and comfort, as you walk through this difficult time.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad almost a year ago. The kindnesses of the Lord during the difficult days after his death were a profound comfort. He is so good and He is near to the brokenhearted. My prayers are with you and your family as you grieve.

    Tamela, sorry to comment twice but I was responding to one of my students in an online course I teach, by sharing an excerpt from a devotional I had written, when it occurred to me that you may find comfort in it…I pray that it is so:

    What a joy it is to be a Christ-follower! As we travel through life as temporary inhabitants of this world, we know where our true citizenship lies. Biblical hope is much different from how we usually use the word “hope” in our day-to-day conversations. Have you ever said, “I hope to get a raise?” or “I hope we can go to the beach on vacation next year?” or “I hope they have that shirt in my size?” All of those statements imply uncertainty – there is no guarantee that what the person is hoping for will be available.

    Biblical hope is not the same. It is not based on circumstances, but rather, on the promises and character of God. This hope is not a wishful uncertain desire, but a confident certainty and a blessed assurance for those who follow Christ. Paul writes in Romans 5:3-4, “And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;”
    Paul uses the Greek word ἐλπίς [elpis] in this verse. It is the hope we have in Jesus as our Risen Lord who has overcome death. While we travel through the difficulties of a broken world, we are joyful and have a confident expectation of eternal salvation. Praise God!

    I am grateful for the hope you share with your Daddy in Christ!

    I was just remembering that it’s already been 13 years since my father’s death. It was one of the most difficult experiences in my life. I can emphasize with what you may be feeling. But God alone knows and bears the depth of your pain.

    Daddy’s are such an integral part of who we are, and often a physical representation of God for us, it is hard to let them go.

    My Daddy has been gone 16 years and I miss his guidance, love and laughter every day, but he also instilled strength as I know, Tamela, yours did for you.

    God bless you in your time of grief, mixed with reassurance you will see him again.

    My dad died 28 years ago, and I like to think of our separation as something like him living in Australia without cell service. We can’t talk now, but someday I’ll join him in a place I’ve always wanted to go. And won’t those reunions be glorious and grand!

    It is so hard to lose the people we love. I lost my husband, a beloved son and two siblings this last year. We know they are with our Lord and that gives us a deep comfort. I pray that you will be able to walk through the pain and be comforted by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
