Today’s six-minute video explores the making of paper, from forest to scribe.
I have visited large printing press operations and seen the warehouses stacked with massive rolls of paper waiting for use. I eventually learned that different types of paper are key to different types of books. Think about the difference between thin Bible paper and the glossy paper in a magazine like National Geographic. It all starts in this manufacturing process.
Enjoy a few minutes about one of the foundational elements of the writing journey.

Ahh. One of the many jobs I had was barge coordinator for the carbon division of a petroleum company. I was responsible for shipments of petroleum coke or coal to paper mills. Fun to see this side of the process.

That is fascinating. I’ve lived next to a paper harvest forest and a paper mill (two different places) but never got to go inside the paper mill to see the process. Thanks for showing this.

Grew up in a papermill town, but never went inside the factory. Thanks for revealing what happens during the process.

I toured a hog production plant and it was very impressive. Ten years later I worked there in Quality Control. They were far more mechanized, able to process 19000 hogs a DAY!
Today just about everything we use or eat has been mass produced.

lol My grandparents lived in Livingston Prosper, NC where there was a paper mill. So if you’ve visited this paper mill, I’m sure you’re familiar with the profound … er…fragrance??

Thank you very much, Mr. Laube, for this wonderful video. I shared it with my grandchildren, and they were fascinated.
