I gazed into tomorrow
far as human eye could see,
and to the hip futurist’s sorrow
that what was to come to be,
saw the marketplace deserted,
gadgets left on dusty shelves,
saw predictions fall inverted,
shadows of their empty selves
for the hands that reached for glitter
that they could really ill-afford
now left marketers so bitter
as they were raised to praise the Lord
in the renewal of Christ’s name,
our today and future claim.
This video is truly amazing. It reminds me of another incredible invention, a new device that can free you from the trouble of typing on keyboards or pressing tiny letters on phones. All you need is a blank sheet of paper and you can produce your own words using this amazing device. It does take some practice, but it’s worth it. It requires no charging of batteries, no complicated folders or backups, and is completely free of annoying spell checks and frustrating updates. The incredible device also costs a tiny fraction of a phone or a computer, and comes in many styles and colors. Its called a pencil. And there are rumors that a newer version which uses a more permanent sort of marking material is being developed. So far it’s being called a “pen” (short for pencil). A whole new world of writing awaits us.
PS. This is not an original idea. I read the original some time ago, but can’t remember who wrote it. If anybody (like Steve) remembers it, please let us know. Pencils, books, what other great new breakthroughs will come along, I wonder? Maybe someone will invent “Artificial Stupidity”. That will be a great hit.
Hilarious! I notice my “kids” in their thirties all read PAPER books. How original!
Good one.
I love transcripts of audio. I read faster than listen. Since YouTube added the auto transcription feature, I “listen” to more talks and podcasts. If it’s good, I’ll give the creator an algorithm boost. I run their muted video at normal speed in the background while I do other work.
Reminds me of something I read. Most literate Ancient Greek and Latin readers would read written text aloud. If so, scribes and writers converting speech to text to be read aloud were acting like human cassette recorders.
Perfect! But now stop and think of the consequences. With our audiobooks we often don’t own them but instead are wonderfully dependent on a complex government system run by brilliant people who always have our best interests at heart. The fact that my local Los Angeles library has almost no conservative leaning audiobooks (if any at all??) for me to borrow shows how much they care about me…that they’re doing all the tough thinking for me so I don’t have to waste precious time trying to think things through. I am so very grateful to not “own” those space-taking physical books, which are just dust magnets! So there again you see? That’s just another way the really brilliant people running things are lovingly taking care of me, even just in terms of saving me from that source of collected dust. Just keep chanting: you will own nothing and be happy! I’m happy! HAPPY! So free of the bondage of books and soooo happy 😃
I laughed outloud…at the day job.
Books are to audiobooks what authors are to AI.
Love it!
Love it! And I enjoy Fun Friday. Great way to end the week. Thanks.
How funny! I’ve been reading audiobooks–or should I say “books–for as long as I can remember.
