Satchel Paige has given pause
and that thing he said was true,
namely, “Don’t look back because
something might be gaining on you.”,
like Jeff Goldblum in the Jeep,
in Jurassic Park of mem’ry dear;
ahead of T. Rex he did keep:
“Objects’re closer than they appear.”
But dino and The Great Unknown
can’t bring the existential pain
of the ringing of the phone,
“You’ve missed the deadline yet again,”
and where indeed vanished the muse
on receipt of suchlike news?
Hilarious. For about 2 years this has been the symbol of my WIP story revision. Finally finished it! (So the octopus images are gone). One motivational wall hanging I got with this kraken on it says, “Everything will kill you. You might as well choose something fun.” Made it through, I posted in my writers community,” I have killed the kraken!” And posted an image of fried kalamari. Yum!
Yes! The giant Pacific Octopus is a resident of the Puget Sound in my state of Washington. The largest recorded weight 156lbs and they can be 20 feet across or as wide as a two-story building is tall! So cool!!! Yes, our summer camps are wrapping up and my deadline for finishing the camp blogs before our family gets a much needed break on Sunday morning is definitely looming like a Giant Pacific Octopus! I better get to work.

Wow! On my e-mail, the first sentence was tiny, so I missed the critical question about deadline dread. So, I pondered what “as the day nears” implied. And looking at the ominous octopus with the trapped scuba diver gave me a bit of the shivers.
I have worked until midnight and beyond when facing a deadline. The relief felt like escaping the tentacles of a huge critter, although I didn’t understand the significance in quite that manner until the picture came into my sight with your prompts.

Seminary days pulling all-nighters finishing research paper. Yeah, kinda like that. From what Kristin said, I guess the picture could be real, versus photoshopped. I prefer Snoopy lurking behind me, though. And I guess I’d like to know what that feels like to have a book deadline.
