You may not enjoy this video as much as I do. The reason is that I played basketball in high school and was able to dunk. In addition, I had the fun of going to State as a high jumper. But this video is highest-level stuff (pun intended). When I see things like this I’m stunned at the sheer athleticism.
Metaphor? You may be good, but there will always be someone better based on certain measurements. However, comparison will get you nowhere. Instead, celebrate others’ success and be grateful for whatever measure you have achieved.

At writing I am far from the first
But I’m also not really the worst
When I jump its a cinch
That I might gain an inch
On the court I have always been cursed.

Watching this was amazing. So Steve what’s the highest you’ve jumped?
Julie Johnson
Fascinating! And I loved the comparison to writing. Adour Ziani (sp) may not be as well known as the flashier athletes, but he competed and ultimately may have surpassed them in skill. I need to remember that and keep toning my writing muscles.

Wow, I might be able to clear a matchbox . . . on a good day

When I was in high school, the jumpers used the “western roll” because you landed in either a pile of sawdust or sand, or on the bare ground. Any of the “Fosbury flop” style jumps would have ended in disaster. The coaches last let me try jumping when I was a freshman; I cleared 5′ 6″. I think my vertical leap was 18 inches, on a good day, wind-assisted, off a springboard. I could not jump well, but I could run. Thanks for the video. There is something amazing about the human body.

That was amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Astounding! A good reminder to keep honing the craft we love, too.
