With July 4th this weekend, we in the United States celebrate Independence Day.
Today, be stirred by this rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” by 7-year-old Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja. (By they way, this little girl debuted at Carnegie Hall at age 5.)
Sung before a 2018 Los Angeles Galaxy soccer match, it became a viral sensation, viewed millions of time. I’d like to watch it one more time with you all.

Some of the funniest comments are on the YouTube channel:

me at 10: pulling doors that say push
ENJOY!!!

Amazing! And your comparisons of yourself at age seven gave me a laugh. I can so relate! LOL.

Wow, wow, wow! And I love how she has such an adult-level talent but you can still hear some of the little girl in her voice and of course in that cute wave at the end. So lovely!

Adorable and amazing!

All I can say is, some of us are late bloomers.

I know she was taught to sing it that way, but I sure wish people would leave our National Anthem alone and sing it the way it was written. Without trying to draw attention to themselves and their voice. It’s the way I was taught to sing it, and I respect my teachers for teaching me that. This is our country’s National Anthem and should be sung with respect, not while trying to show off.
My opinion. Take it or leave it.

That was awesome! Her singing, her attitude, the look on some faces of players. Made me stand up and put my hand on my heart! So cool.

OK, so…I was expecting a lovely rendition.
That was STUNNING. It’s hard to surprise me, but this did.
And then when she finishes and says, “Thank you,” and waves, she goes back to being just a seven-year-old girl. Wow.
Thank you for posting this.

What a voice range!!

She is amazing! My only concern is for the damage she may do to her vocal chords by the intermittent roaring sounds coming out of that little throat. I’m saddened by the many players who chose not to salute during our national anthem, but that has nothing to do with Malea or her incredible talent. Thanks for sharing this, Steve.

Wow! I’ve never heard or seen any seven year old child perform like this! She has definitely received a gift from God. Thanks for sharing this with us Steve. I’ll be passing it along to others. My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter can recite the Pledge of Allegiance like you’ve never before heard! Her mother taught her and it’s beyond adorable! I’m the co-author of FLAGS ACROSS AMERICA book and presented a flag photo program this week for the Goodyear Arts and Culture Commission Hot Coffee Art Lecture Series. It is now on Youtube. The FAA photo art exhibit is displayed in the GoodYear Library. I hope you and others will stop by to see the beautiful flag art exhibit. Happy Birthday America!
