A bit by the comedian Gallagher from the 70s and 80s. He was mostly known for his “Sledge-o-Matic” gag where he smashed watermelons on stage. But not today!
Instead, he makes great fun of the English language.
Enjoy watching!

Thanks to Deb Haggerty for the tip!
Love it! When I was teaching high school British literature years ago, my student Joseph said, “So, basically, Mrs. McHenry, English is a mutt language.”
Yes, Joseph and the rest of you. And that’s why we have all these language anomalies.
I always loved this bit!
Ah, finally I understand why I can’t spell anything! Add to that auto spell checker that has fosters why you forget anything you did have figured out!
Oy!
Exactly!
You are a Kindred Spirit. This was delightful fun!
Love Gallagher. So brilliant. Thanks for the Friday laugh.
My husband and I loved watching Gallager when we were teenagers. Good clean (unless you were on the front 3 rows) fun! THIS is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!
P.S. I was one of those (ahem!) ugly little spelling bee winners back in grade school… so there’s that!
Very clever. Thank goodness for the English language. It’s the source of so much entertainment. (And a few good stories, as well.)
Eye is gonna right a pome
that is gonna resonate
all the way way from here to Nomb;
it’s really gonna be that grate.
Its reading’s gonna fill a room
and all their will make Mary,
even those who left their toom
in the local cemetery.
All the best will surely come
to listen with attention rapt,
and I’m sure they’ll be struck dome
as their consciences are tapt
by the things that I have red
for the living and the ded.
Gotta love the English language. Never a dull moments. LOL
Moment… moment. LOL
I have to confess I got this from Barb Barnes who got it from someone at Baker. 🙂
Love that bit. We saw his show way back in the day, he was hilarious, brilliant
I work in adult literacy. My brain cramps and my heart aches for my poor students who are struggling to learn English! I’m going to try to use this clip in a training session for the ESL tutors: a little reality checkup and empathy boost!
