Want to be terrified or at least made uncomfortable or be in awe? Watch today’s video about a warehouse in London with more than 2,000 active robots filling consumer orders.
It seriously looks like something out of a science-fiction thriller. (The Robocapalypse?) When they call it “The Hive” and there is one artificial intelligence running the show, oh my.
Next thing you know an A.I. will be writing your book for you!

That is mind blowing.
Steve,
I enjoy your blogs and look forward to reading them for information about publishing and marketing. Thanks for this Friday edition about robots filling grocery boxes. Interesting.

You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
That’s funny!
Damon, ; ) I will fight it as long as I’m able! LOL!
This was fascinating. That said, I hope the robots don’t decide I’ve had too many Twinkies and decide not to fill my order. That would be meddling…..
Mind boggling!
Amazing what our minds can create!
Crazy!
We live in a sci-fi world.
Near the end, the guy talked about how all the parts of the robotic system interact to fill each customer’s order. Makes me think of all the different parts and people of the publishing process that interact to produce a finished book.
On social media, a writing software company posted for each person to type “Once upon a time there was a” into the comment box, then continue the sentence using our phone’s predictive text options. It’s amazing how varied the results were–some hilarious, some nonsensical, and some thought-provoking. Mine surprised me; it brought to mind a Frank Peretti style, unlike my own. The moderator replied, “That sounds very interesting and foreboding.” Then, I wondered about using predictive text to write a fantasy novel. It would be an interesting experiment, but begs the question, “Where is the line between AI predictive text and divination?”
The “next thing you know” is already happening.
