Cool!
Wow! What was the purpose of the plastic tube the electronic cellist kept putting in his mouth?
It’s called a “talk box.” Made famous by Peter Frampton in the 70s.
Allows the musician to create a new sound using their voice. Frampton sang to his audience. In the above video I think you can hear the cellist “sing” unusual sounding notes.
Here is an article on how the Talk Box works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/audio-music/talk-box.htm
Cool!!
Carol, this is a “talk box”. I’ve seen it used on a wide variety of instruments including the “steel guitar” used in the Country/Western genre.
In the “rock” genre guitarist Peter Frampton had a 14 minute long song rendered unique utilizing the talk box on the “Frampton comes alive” album released in 1976 titled “Do you feel like we do”. Its a huge “rock” classic to this day.

How do you find all these great videos?
Janet,
Some are sent to me as Fun Friday candidates. (Anyone can feel free to “nominate” potential pieces to use.)
Others are found because I do nothing all day but watch cat videos and search for Fun Friday pieces. !!!!
Steve
Steve,
Somehow, I can’t believe the last line “…I do nothing all day but watch cat videos and search for Fun Friday pieces.” Cat videos are fun to watch and so are the Fun Fridays (I’ve recommended Fun Fridays to a couple friends), but somehow I think you do a whole lot more than that!
Thanks! The Piano Guys are amazing. I feel energized now π
Wow, that is cool! π
Absolutely Awesome!!!!!!
Happy Birthday to your daughter. Didn’t she get married recently? She’s a June bug like me.
You gotta love ThePianoGuys. They used to make lots of awesome videos, but the success of streaming means fewer CDs are sold…
I love the comment at the end. “Do the raised 13th, then we go to the resolution.”
That’s like saying, ‘Do the m-dash, then we go to the denouement.’
Thank you for putting Joy in this musician/writer’s heart.
Hope your daughter had an amazing day. Nothing like having daughters.
Hilarious! That slide into the ’70s was quite the musical jump. π
I LOVED this!! π And I’ll confess that I have some old Jackson Five music I still listen to (very upbeat and energizing!).
Thanks for sharing, and Happy Friday!
!!! Now I go write.
My Kindle went phhtp so for today, reading is out. I ‘knew’ I should never, ever trust electronic media. Ever.
Thanks for this, was fun and energetic. Loved the wig shaking.

Gotta love the piano guys! They’re one of my favorite playlists for writing (as long as I don’t get distracted by the video).
