Today is a series of photos that create a picture of the writing life:
What prospective authors think the road ahead is like:
What the road is actually like:
Then you send your proposal to Steve Laube:
And your best-laid plans go awry:
Life ambushes you without warning:
But you persevere:
Achieve your goals:
And all is right in the world because God is sovereign over all things:
Sharon K Connell
So true, Steve. So true. Thanks for the visual journey of an author’s life. LOL
Carol Tanksley
Yup. that about sums it up! And no one can tell you how long that twisting road will last. The rewards will be worth it, even if they will only be fully known in eternity.
Jane Catherine Rozek
What a unique way to tell a fitting story! Beautiful shots too!
Richard New
Nice symbolism. Calming, too. This is good to know while coming to understand the writer’s path, but it sure is exasperating.
That road down the mountain is also l–o–n–g among the twists and turns.
Linda Riggs Mayfield
For those of us who are dominantly visual learners, that was a life lesson, warning, and encouragement all wrapped up in 20 seconds, even with going back to watch the cat attack a second time for a laugh! Thanks, Steve!?
Kristen Johnson
Love this!! And that ambushing cat is the best. Made me laugh for sure. Happy weekend!
Cindy Fowell
Thank you for the chuckles that turned into full out laughter. Not only do these pictures describe life as a writer, but life in general. Thank you again for starting my Friday in the right perspective.
Martha VanCise
Great nonfiction.
Floss Craig
Great representation! Still working toward the hammock.
Sy Garte
Well, I’ve got the hammock. All I need now is the view.
Diane
Great photo-journal of our path as an author!
Maco Stewart
I love it. Thanks.
Catherine
You made me laugh, you made me cry.
Marcia Laycock
I think the one of the guy hanging from the cliff says it all. Oy!
Jan Willis
Thank you for the true and entertaining picture story of an author’s life. I nodded in agreement, along with a few guffaws.
Yaasha
Haha, oh, yup. I’m definitely that cat who got attacked! But it’s so true that the ups and downs are worth it, because God is sovereign and His gifts are always given for a reason. Thanks for the fun encouragement!

Perfect! I’ll have to send to my non-author friends, and definitely to my author/writer friends!
I said, ‘yep, yep, yep,’ and laughed… and last, ‘amen.’
Some of us semi-dull (or just plain, dull) folks need that nice pictural set-up.
Sheri Dean Parmelee, Ph.D
Awesome!
Brennan S. McPherson
That…. is funny. 🙂
Georjean
wow! says it all!!!
thank you for the beautiful reminder!
Bob
So very true. Great photos that demonstrate our emotions.
Sherri Kukla
Love it! Reality in a humorous way that ends with inspiration! Thank you!
Jason
Showed this to my daughter who wants to be a writer, and she said, “Didn’t you just send your book proposal to Mr. Laube?” Gulp! Looks like I have a tornado coming my way soon.
Martha Hutchens
Wow! That switchback road is even worse than the one into my town, and that’s saying something!
claire o'sullivan
My dad said things like… ‘You want to be a writer? Get a degree in molecular biologist, it’s a lot easier…’
Then again, he said, ‘You want to be a paleontologist? All you’ll do is teach…’
Enter, (years later)… a blockbuster fiction, Jurassic Park, based on the real-life paleontologist, Jack Horner.
That hammock we can rest in all the time knowing who’s in charge, no matter how many proposals we send out, how many disasters take us from that ‘perfectly-timed, well-thought-out’ plan.

I’m back at picture two!
lianne hall
I was good until the hanging off the cliff thing. yikes
Ann
Too funny. Very clever. Hopefully true.
