People may define “fun” differently. Today’s video is “fun” by my definition because it is interesting, instructive, and done by someone with a delightful accent.
Seriously though, I often forget that not everyone knows the vocabulary for the various pieces of a printed book. This video may help!
Was anyone else reminded of Paul’s description of the Armour of God?
Our days are not pages,
but leaves, that pass and fall
as the paper ages,
’till none are left at all.
Protected by a spine, they are,
and boards to left and right,
and the DJ will go far
to keep the bindings bright,
and keep the hinge-joints guarded
to hold book block secure,
so when the reading’s started
we know we will endure
half-title leaf that frames our story,
to the title-page, Author and Glory.
Informative
Thank you!
Quite a bit of fun, indeed. Cheers!
I am just geeky enough to enjoy videos like this. I was resisting the urge to take notes!
I was also surprised that he didn’t mention “signatures” of leaves in books.
Helpful. Thank you, I’m saving this post to watch again.
I so enjoyed this video, Mr. Laube. I smiled when I recalled the many deckle-edged books I used in Europe while studying at the University of Florence, Italy. I had to cut the page edges in order to be able to access the material on each page. A charming bit of nostalgia that brightened my day. Thank you! 🙂
I actually have this book, and enjoyed the video.
Thank you. That was wonderful. Although I knew each term separately, it’s good to have them all together in one explanation.
