A Tongue-in-cheek Writer’s Psalm: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of publication, I will fear no contract, for my agent is with me; your leverage and your wisdom, they comfort me. You prepare a meeting for me, in the presence of acquisitions editors; you anoint my writing with thumb’s-up emoji’s; my publication offers overflow. Surely fame and blissful happiness will follow me all the days of my writing career, and I shall dwell in the house of my new publisher forever, without ever abandoning them for a more impressive advance against royalties–unless I feel like it.”
Do agents compete for an author? I have seen authors change agents and have wondered if the author may have been “recruited” to an agent and away from another? Do publishers “steer” new authors who don’t have agents to particular agents that they prefer to work with?
As you probably know in the corporate world the acquisition of top talent in various fields can get very competitive and sometimes even downright vicious.

Steve, is that an agent or author that’s about to become a carcass?

That’s funny. What would an agent (or author with his agent) do in this situation?

Maybe little author should just run with it and see who pursues the hardest.

So, were the big guys saying grace or just blessing the smaller animal? Maybe an animal dedication to the Lord? Food for thought, literally…..
