Since this upcoming Labor Day weekend in many ways spells the official end of Summer I thought it appropriate to listen to a Beach Boys song!
What makes this unusual is that what you hear is vocal only. All the instruments have been removed. Shows the beautiful genius of their voices. Enjoy “Wouldn’t it Be Nice?”
[Trivia note: The late Glen Campbell was one of the greatest guitar players in the music business. In the 60s he was a studio session musician and could walk into the studio and play anything. (click for a list of the hits where he can be heard playing).
One of those hits was the below song where he played bass (not guitar) on the album “The Pet Sounds Sessions” and in 1965 he was asked to replace Brian Wilson and sang the high parts for the group’s tour.]
Amazing. So many vocals are drowned by the instruments that we might wonder if they’re there. Let alone on pitch.
… and this was done well before the days of automated (digital) vocal pitch correction.
Wow. That was exquisite! It showcases the beauty of the human voice.
What a wonderful balm after a personal night of hell…thank you SO MUCH for this, Steve. Not much could have made me smile today; this did.
Beautiful and fascinating about Glen Campbell!
Hi Steve, I had the privilege last week of attending the last memorial service to be held for Glenn at the Country Music Hall of Fame here in Nashville. Guess who sang as a tribute? The Beach Boys! They sang I Get Around, a cappella, and talked about how they came to know and love him. Thanks for sharing!
It sounds as though the fun went on a long time after the recording ended. I could hear the beginnings of some improv and bouncing around of musical ideas.
Thank you for this! I feel inspired.
I loved there sound and it is awesome to hear them without the instruments.
I meant “their” sound. Oops! It’s been a long day!
Amazing! SO fun to hear. 😉 Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Steve. A moment of smiles after a hard week of hurricane-ness. I wish The world had this kind of harmony.
