Forty-one years ago today, a beautiful young lady said “I do”; and we have been married ever since. They say that beside every good man is an even better woman. I couldn’t agree more. Through the ups and downs of life, my wife, Lisa, has been the foundation of our home and raised three incredible daughters (and now two grandsons are part of the extended family!).
I can safely say that The Steve Laube Agency would not be what it is today without her efforts behind the scenes. Her consistent prayers, her pursuit of God, and her love for me have made it all possible. She has been there through every agonizing twist and turn.
In addition, she has been the developmental editor genius behind most of the books published by Enclave Publishing. In fact, all five titles that won awards at the recent 2022 Realm Makers event were edited by her. (Find the list here.)
My sentimental side lacks a little polish, and words tend to fail me. So today, in a simple way, on our 41st wedding anniversary, I would like to honor Lisa and say, “I love you” and “Thank you for all that you do.” I am humbled to be married to such an amazing woman of God.
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.

Barb and I recently celebrated our twentieth anniversary. She received body armour (she handles the church deposits), while she gave me some hardwood blanks to make rifle stocks. We’re clearly sentimentalists.
In case you’re interested, and even if you’re really not, zebrawood is kinda weird to work (use a hand saw, NOT a sabre saw!), but once you learn to listen to it, it’s really rewarding.
She stood by me all these years
with forbearance, kindness, tact,
and deserves far more than tears
as we face the final act
of this play begun in hope
that instead found hurricane;

with my going, with the pain
of a life that’s amputated?
The dread that I see in her eyes

By coincidence, my wife Rebecca and I were also married on August 22, 1981 (in Colorado Springs, where we both worked at the time for NavPress). We celebrated today with breakfast out and a short hike through nearby beautiful country in Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Thanks to both of you for being great role models for the rest of us. Patrick and I are at mile marker 21. When we married, we made our goal 75 years. It seemed like “forever” then, but the last 21 years just zipped by, so we might be there quicker than we expected. 🙂
