Guadalcanal was much like hell,
but there did fighting back begin.
Those who lived remembered well:
Thanksgiving, they flew turkeys in.
They were cooked in ovens made
on the spot by 1-11
for all Marines of every grade;
in hell, a little piece of Heaven.
And so, in that most dreadful place,
a connection was enabled
with families all saying grace
back home, around the dinner table.
For some, ’twas the last Thanksgiving Day,
but for freedom, that’s the price we pay.

I will surely be singing this song (at least the la, la, la part) as I prep my Thanksgiving dinner today.
You’re the best, Steve! Happy Thanksgiving!
Well, la la la la la la la la yourself. Ear worms! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Except for the turkey.
Singing makes everything festive!!!
