This could be dangerous, but here goes:
A slam of editors and a groan of agents.

Ron, That’s just awesome. How about:
A strangle of editors.
So far, the words I’ve come up with for agents, don’t beat yours, so I’ll leave it there.

Steve, you missed my favorite: A murmur of starlings.
That’s when you see them cloud the sky in moving clouds. Sometimes called a murmuring of starlings.

Hi Steve, we met recently at the AWSA Banquet in my home town, St. Louis. I love that you love to have fun with words, and that you have quoted from one of my *favorite* books–An Exulation of Larks. I’ve used it when writing (especially poetry). Ok…..I asked my husband, and he said, “An excruciation of editors!” I’m sure he thinks this is how I feel when he carves up my work (or frankly, when he gets stuck doing so)! Knowing you are generating this discussion, I’d opt for stealing the larks’ designation and say “an exultation of editors,” or maybe an “eloquence of editors.” I’m still mulling over agents, because I’ve never had one. Thank you for this terrific blog; and BTW, Miss Tamela generated a great discussion yesterday. I’m grateful for her.
Blessings,
Lynn (and most people are glad there is no “plural” of me! I’m enough to handle; thank you very much!)

Oh and might I add two little pet plurals I’ve devised?

How about a SCRIBBLE of Editors, a QUERY of agents…and for a bonus word–a FOLD of publishers.

A boatload of editors and a dying breed of agents.

Ouch!

An empire of editors; an anthology of agents. Or (not alliterative, but perhaps more positive) an acquisition of editors and a garnering of agents.

I submit: A convocation (what a group of eagles is actually called) of Editors and a clutch (a collection of birds’ eggs) of Agents.
I hope the “eagles” (especially those in the Christian publishing industry) are blessed with sharp vision and reach for the heights under the protection of His wings; and the “clutch” of agents grow strong in the encouragement and success of their clients.
