Today is WORLD SAUNTERING DAY!
To saunter. To stroll, amble, meander, wander, or mosey.
Walk without a plot (like the way many try to write their novels!).
Confuse your step counters and productivity apps.
Don’t pretend you’re late for something.
Drift past signs without reading them. (You’ll forget what they said anyway.)
Walk as if your phone battery just died, and you’ve accepted your fate.
By the end of your saunter, nothing is finished, yet everything is somehow attended to.
Perfect for a summer day.

Great Danes aren’t meant for sauntering,
and yet, they’re so appealing
even when a head-shake flings
their drool upon the ceiling.
They rise before the milkman,
they rise before the sun
to carry out their master plan
of energetic fun
of having zoomies in the house
and gallops in the yard.
And yet, they’ll panic at a mouse
and take their naptime hard
because they just don’t want to hide
all the joy they hold inside.
I love it, Andrew. May I use your poem in my FB group forum to celebrate the day?
Sharon, use it, absolutely!
Daphne Dane says WOOF!
Sauntering … how lovely!
Sauntering is a wonderful idea, unless you are in Florida with temps in the high 90s and “feels like” temps in triple digits. Then, it’s “get from the car into the house as quickly as possible” time.
Dear Steve,
I do not often comment on your posts, but I always, always enjoy them, whether they are for fun or packed with vital information for writers.
I heard you speak about time at the Write to Publish conference. To quote two of the jewels you imparted: “Cliches … sound like we can have or control time. But we cannot control what God alone can give.”
And, “You are not producing content. You are changing lives, even if just your own.”
Those quotes may be inexact. I was trying to capture as much as I could of what you were saying. Your differentiation between kairos and chronos is one I have heard before, but not for many years. Your application of the words to scripture reached me in a deeply comforting way, as I am turning 72 today.
Your entire talk was like a deep blue galaxy studded with graceful stars. I had felt extremely nervous just before the conference and your words laid a solid, calm path for the succeeding days.
