Palindromes: A word or phrase that reads the same backward or forward. Like “we panic in a pew” … perfect for a Sunday sermon!
Weird Al, singing like Bob Dylan, did an entire song where the lyrics are totally made of palindromes. It is one of those videos that you want to stop watching but can’t. Creative is one word. Strange is another. But it is all about word “play” which makes it perfect for Fun Friday!

The amazing thing is that the video REPLICATES the Dylan vid Subterranean Homesick Blues. The song, the beat, the visuals, the rhymes, but in palindromes! Weird Al is an underappreciated genius.
Joe Plemon
I agree, James. This under-appreciated genius is on his game here. The thing is, he is so funny that we overlook his talent. I, for one, couldn’t stop laughing.

lad reiw is a real genius on many levels. Beyond the palindromes in this video he has included an innocuous subliminal message. Here’s how.
Notice the two dudes having a seemingly irrelevant conversation on the left in the background. The guy in the sheepskin vest (really, is this the late 60’s)) with the fake beard is doing most of the talking. Of course he is, he is the one that has a full frontal face shot to the audience. Without fully realizing it themselves most people can, to one degree or another, read lips.
Here is where the subliminal part comes in. The viewers while focusing on the flashing cards are inadvertently picking up the conversation to the left in their peripheral vision. A message, although delivered subconsciously, comes through loud and clear on that level. It says:
“Don’t waste your time with those New York agencies, New Yorkers have a reputation for being RUDE. Look how junky it is here. Find a pleasant agency based out of somewhere nice, say, like Phoenix. BTW, be sure to check out “Superstructure: The Key to Unleashing the Power of Story”
As you can see we are not all that busy on Friday afternoons. Maybe that’s why it’s called FUN FRIDAYS. Disclaimer: We are not a government agency ( I’m pretty sure)
m. rochellino
Mea culpa, my bad. Meant to say “some” New Yorkers have a reputation for being rude, certainly not all. When I lived there we used to laugh with folks from other places that said we were “too nice” to be from there. Anyway, its all in jest. Have a great weekend!
Christine
umm … wait. June 5th?
Steve Laube
Christine,
The bonehead who set up the blog scheduling made a mistake. (That would be me.) Ended up with two videos posting this morning.
The error has been corrected. So if you watched them both already you’ll get a repeat next week.

He was ‘never odd nor even’ – even bob is a palindrome

Too great not to share, but on iPhone, launching the video a second time from your website brings up another song with profanity. Just FYI.
I’m sure it’s not because of an evil hard disk.
More of a foe ROM.
Steve Laube
Carol,
Must be your phone. All is well on this end. Links all set and directed to the appropriate video.
Sorry!

The first link that you have embedded in your html is fine. If I tap “done” at song completion, it returns to your blog page, which now displays image link to “Everything Wrong.with the Purge.”
I ran into the same YouTube auto play of the next video when I was preparing a teaching series on molecular biological proof for a designer this spring. I’m not sure how you can break that step-link in YouTube. If another of your blog followers knows, I would love to hear about the solution.

This has to be the revenge of the dyslexics! Only people with a genius for reading stuff backwards would be able to recognize that many palindromes.
Bill Hendricks
Is “technical screw up” a palindrome, Steve?
Carol
Not a screw up, just hostile hidden html haunting his homepage.
Lisa Taylor
Just an FYI: this video is not available in all international destinations (may not be available outside of the the US, or outside of North America). Too bad, my daughter will feel lost without her Fun Friday video.
Anyone else who can’t access it may wish instead to partake of a New Zealand music/cultural moment as a replacement:

It’s hard to compete with Weird Al, but our most talented Christian artist is not without humour (and yes, that last word is spelled correctly 😉
Carol
An engineering colleague and I wrote a tech book for a UK publisher. They changed our “or” into “our” and “ize” into “ise” for 345 pages. After proofing the galleys, the “our” seemed correct even to us New Mexicans. The “ise” was harder to adapt to for some unknown reason. Maybe because there’s not enough zzzz’s in a day for many of us.

This is more of a question than a comment. So I hope you don’t mind.? I have written at least fifteen Fiction stories about the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why is it that no one is interested in even reading about Christ? I made an enquiry about this and was told “Your subject won’t sell. Is this the same here. Are you of the same opinion”
