The Sound of Music is an all-time movie musical classic first released in 1965. It starred Julie Andrews playing the part of Maria von Trapp. You likely know the story’s premise of Maria, a young Austrian woman, who is studying to be a nun. She is sent to the home of a widowed military officer to be the governess for his seven children. All sorts of delight and drama ensue. The songs in the movie, created by Rogers and Hammerstein, have become familiar across the world.
A few years later, in 1972-1973, Julie Andrews had her own Emmy Award-winning TV variety show. In one episode she met the real Maria von Trapp. Today’s video is that short clip.
Enjoy!

I heard the sound of music while I watched the Sound of Music. I feel the music of Sound of Music is delightful which is to say the Sound of Music moved me. When I say “moved” I mean emotionally and physically. Actually am not ashamed to admit that I danced probably the most ridiculous of dances ever coordinated in the history of humankind. I sang too, most likely off-key but I did it nonetheless all because of the sound of music in the Sound of Music.

One of my all time favorite movies. My roommate in college had the soundtrack on cassette tape. We played it all the time.
Wonderful memories.

I think this story evokes great memories for everyone who hears it. I went on and listened to the great-grandchildren singing Edelweiss on the next frame. What heavenly harmony that family has! You made my day with this post. Thanks!

I loved the old musicals.
I recently wrote 12 songs and developed a draft for a Christian musical. Then I reached out to a Christian music director who loved the idea, but things came up. Right now, the draft is tucked away in a computer folder. Is there any market for this?
The premise for the musical is: Individual Christians from various times in history hit tough times and strengthen themselves in the Lord in song. The musical climaxes when persecution strikes current-day America. Ragtag individuals unite into an army of God who stand firm and are killed for their faith. But they are raised from the dead and transformed into the Bride of Jesus. The musical is entitled “BRIDE OF JESUS: A CHRISTIAN MUSICAL.”

Such a sweet clip. There was a time when movies were pretty, fun, edifying and entertaining and there were no curse words, vulgar sex scenes, no high tech drones killing people, etc. “Sound of Music” was a clean musical that the entire family could enjoy together. I wish there were more movies and musicals similar to that genre. Thanks for the memory.
