Today’s video is an expression of what it looks like when every part of the publishing process works in sync. Writer, developmental editor, line editor, copy editor, proofreader, cover designer, typesetter, and sales/marketing. It can be a beautiful thing.

My body is a dissonance,
the pain can really make me howl
when all I’ve got are consonants
and there is not a single vowel.
Life’s a postmodern minuet
maybe composed by Philip Glass,
and though it is not over yet,
I do know that this, too, will pass
and I’ll walk on the sweet green sward
that leads me unto Heaven’s gate
and my long-hoped-for reward
(after Peter growls, (“You’re late!”),
a stein of ale with which to toast
the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
It’s also a great metaphor for the biochemistry of a living cell.
True that. Fazale Rana’s book, “The Cell’s Design” describes that process.
What a great way to start a Friday morning. I was mesmerized. Reminded me of when my mom and her brother played the “spoons” on their knees.
I love to see good team work!!!
What were all created to excel in!!! Hallelujah!
WE were all created to excel in team work!
Sorry for the typo…. the bane of writers! 🙂
To me, this is what it’s like when everything in your story is flowing as it should. The words are coming in the right places, the descriptions are precise but not overdone, the plot is finding it’s thread throughout the story, subplots are moving along nicely, and your characters are all behaving and letting you do the thinking for them. LOL
Alas, it doesn’t always work that way.
This reminds me of the Pentatonix song, White Winter.
Exactly what it looks like for the editorial process, design, marketing when it works right. Oversaw that process on several books for Reasons To Believe with Baker Books and that was my experience. Great analogy for wonderful memories. Loved it.
Excellent. Had to share that on my FB page
Amazing art created from incredible devotion, practice, skill, and a sense of fun…but with almost no cost or materials. It’s like they’re knitting music.
As I reflect upon this spirited Fun Fridays – March 6, 2026 post by Steve Laube, I find myself genuinely struck by the simple yet profound way it captures the beauty of collaboration when every part of a creative process works in harmony, a metaphor that resonates deeply with anyone who has ever wrestled with words or sought to shape a story into something meaningful. The depiction of all elements of publishing moving rhythmically together is more than mere observation; it is a quiet celebration of teamwork, patience, and craft distilled into a moment of visual delight and shared joy. One senses here not just a playful weekly feature but a reminder that behind every well‑told book lies a symphony of unseen hands, voices, and hearts working toward a common purpose, which is as heartening as it is inspiring.
