Every year, a nearby catholic high school displays a field of flags like this. What a beautiful way to remember that tragic day and those who died and those whose lives were forever changed.
We had just adopted two children from Russia and were trying to settle them into a “stable” new home on that day. When I heard the news, I felt like I should apologize to my newest children: There is no more safety here than you had there. But then I recalled God had clearly led us to bring them “here” for His purposes. Safety is in Him, not our location.
I recall being in F-16 training at Luke Air Force Base and telling my commander, “Put me in the air.” I hadn’t even finished the course yet. In my zeal, the Lord reminded me, “Vengeance is Mine…I will repay…overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:19,21). Still a good reminder today.
People like me were still overseas – Nigeria precisely struggling with lack of pay and other economic deprivations. In a different continent . However, I have read some sad stories from Karen Kingsbury’s 9/11 series depicting that time and through such stories, I can never forget. I read through her three series :One Tuesday Morning;Beyond Tuesday morning and Every now and then.
May God continue to comfort the victims of that day and continue to refresh their hope of meeting their loved ones in Heaven someday. I trust God has taken their pain but their memories remain.
May we never forget by God’s grace the lessons He wants us to learn from it all. Thanks Steve for the thought. God bless you.
Our flag is flying. We will never forget the horror of 9/11 and today we fly our flag in memory and honor of those who gave their lives to that horrendous day.
Never! I will always remember the sick, horrendous feeling that washed over me when the announcement came over the radio. Such a sad, devastating day! God bless the USA and continue to heal our families and our land.
It was a dark day in American history, though perhaps perhaps the violence and division we see today is even more troubling. I thank God that He brought us through that time and our banner still waves, but America needs prayer for the strife she is experiencing now. Please pray the Lord will unite us and bring us peace.
I was so secure in our safety and strength that I thought it was a joke. Now we know as a people that we are not all powerful. There is only one who saves. My hope is not in nations, chariots, or armies, but in the Lord. Anyone who has lost a loved one discovers this on a personal level, it is strange to realize that nations can have these moments as well. That terrible realization that yes, we are vulnerable, just like everyone else.

My college senior granddaughter has no idea what that day was like. She was two years old at the time.
