    Writing retreat? Sure sounds good,
    creative’s prayer given answer,
and I would take it if I could,
but there’s no retreat from cancer,
and that is what informs the words
    that God has given me
as He gently steers me towards
    my date with destiny.
Yes, of course, sometimes I wish
that I might be as normal men,
life’s smorgasbord to fill my dish,
its carnival to guide my pen,
but since that cannot now betide,
I may as well enjoy the ride.
