Gospel of St John: 1.1-14

IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of that light. That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his Name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

May the grace and truth of Christmas be with you throughout the holidays and beyond.

Are Deadlines Killing Your Christmas?

Remember the days when all we had to do at Christmas time was sip hot chocolate, trim the tree, and wrap gifts, all while listening to Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole croon out those wonderful old carols? Yeah, me neither. For so many of us, Christmas has become another …

Christmas in Story

December is here, the time we celebrate the greatest story of all—the advent of a holy baby/Savior. Of course, my favorite version of the Christmas story is found in Scripture, but I love that the spirit of that story can be found in countless venues and styles of story. So …

Nuclear Santa

Sixty years ago this week in 1955, Sears Roebuck ran the following print ad in a Colorado Springs newspaper: What a lovely thought. Santa (the real one, not some department store fake) announcing “Hey Kiddies! Call me direct.” There was only one problem, the phone number was already taken by …

Over the next few days my wife and I will have our family gather in our home to celebrate Christmas. A part of that will be the fun of seeing our grandson enjoy his first Christmas (Three daughters, two sons-in-law, and one grandson…Hooray for Caleb!). Thinking of having a baby in our home …
